Albufera Parc is a young company that started working with the tourism industry in 2000.
We have a thorough knowledge of Albufera Lake, its flora and fauna and the best ways to navigate it, which has made our start-up successful. We were born and grew up in El Palmar, a village at the heart of this natural park. Our identification and links with this area go far beyond tourism or economic interests.
We descend from fishermen and members of the Palmar Community of Fishermen, an organisation that has existed for more than 750 years as these fishermen have made a living off the waters of this natural wonder. Our roots go very deep. We have learned from our fathers and grandfathers, just as they learned from theirs.
Every year from October to February, as we have been doing for hundreds of years past, we employ the oldest and most traditional methods in order to fish for eels, including “calá” and trap-nets. And with nets, we fish for flathead mullet, sea bass and carp.
Our families have educated us, not only in how to fish—as they have done for a living—but also to respect, care for and love the lake and its surroundings.
Unfortunately, Albufera Lake is not currently at its best, environmentally speaking. Many species have disappeared due to the deterioration of the lake’s waters, caused by industrial dumping. For this reason we want everyone who visits El Palmar to be able to discover this natural treasure in Valencia. We want visitors to enjoy it, to be surprised by it, and for just a moment, for them to feel what we feel. We want for them to understand how important this lake is to us and how proud we are of it.
